JERUSALEM -- The Israeli military said it shot down on Saturday three Hezbollah drones flying toward one of the country's offshore gas fields in the Mediterranean Sea.

One of the drones was downed by an Israeli fighter jet, while the other two by missiles fired from a navy corvette, according to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces. (Israel-Lebanon-Drones)

DAMASCUS -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday accused the Turkish leadership of committing aggression against Syria, even as Turkey is planning a new offensive in northern Syria.

His remarks came during a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian who arrived in Damascus earlier in the day mainly to ease the tension between Syria and Turkey. (Syria-Iranian FM-Turkey)

TEHRAN -- At least five were killed and 84 wounded in three earthquakes measuring above magnitude 6 that shook Iran's southern province of Hormozgan early Saturday, semi-official Fars news agency quoted an emergency official as saying.

BEIRUT -- Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib said on Saturday Lebanon will be compelled to act in accordance with its own national interests for sending the Syrian refugees to their homeland in the absence of a clear international plan.
