JAKARTA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) on Wednesday ordered to recall Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream due to a high level of Ethylene Oxide (ETO).
"To protect our public, BPOM has instructed importers to withdraw the Haagen-Dazs vanilla flavored ice cream product for all packaging," said Head of BPOM Penny K. Lukito.
The BPOM also instructed importers to temporarily stop the sale of other Haagen-Dazs ice cream containing vanilla flavor until the product is confirmed safe.
The BPOM said other Haagen-Dazs ice cream variants that are officially registered are still allowed to circulate in Indonesia.
The Indonesia Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed on July 8 received information from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed about ETO detection above limit in Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream products. Enditem
