RIO DE JANEIRO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Veteran manager Alexi Stival is poised to return to reigning Brazilian Serie A champions Atletico Mineiro, seven months after leaving the Belo Horizonte club to take an indefinite sabbatical.
The 59-year-old replaces Antonio Mohamed, who was sacked on Thursday following the team's 1-1 away draw with Cuiaba in Serie A championship.
An official announcement confirming the appointment is expected to be made in the coming days, Globo Esporte reported.
Stival, who is better known as Cuca, ended his nine-month spell as Atletico manager last December, days after leading the Belo Horizonte outfit to their first Brazilian Serie A title in 50 years.
He also managed Galo, as the club is known, from 2011 to 2013 and led the side to the 2013 Copa Libertadores title.
When explaining his decision to resign last year, Cuca said he would not accept any other coaching offer in 2022 so that he could dedicate time to his family.
The former forward, who earned one Brazil cap in 1991, has an overall record of 128 wins, 48 draws and 48 defeats as Atletico manager. Enditem
