Singapore reports 4,709 new COVID-19 cases

SINGAPORE, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Singapore reported 4,709 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total tally to 1,718,765.

Of the new cases, 454 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 4,255 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 429 were local transmissions and 25 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 4,119 local transmissions and 136 imported cases, respectively.

A total of 676 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with 65 cases in intensive care units.

Two deaths were reported from COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total death toll to 1,520, the ministry said.

The ministry announced on Monday evening that it has revised the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in 2021 from 803 to 821. The adjustment follows an annual reconciliation exercise after the Registry of Births and Deaths finalized its report for 2021. Enditem
