MEXICO CITY, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Reigning champions Atlas recovered from a one-goal halftime deficit to secure a 3-1 home victory over Queretaro in their Liga MX Apertura clash on Thursday.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men just after the half-hour mark when Hugo Nervo was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Angel Sepulveda.

The latter then put the visitors ahead when he connected with a Gabriel Rojas cross to power a header into the bottom right corner.

Queretaro were also left with only 10 players on the pitch when Omar Mendoza was shown a second yellow card for bringing down Julian Quinones on the hour.

The dismissal had an immediate impact on the match as Atlas regained the momentum. Luis Reyes drew the hosts level three minutes later when he converted a penalty after Jordan Silva pulled down Jesus Ocejo in the area.

Oziel Herrera then put the hosts ahead with a right-footed shot from outside the box after a Jeremy Marquez pass. Quinones made it 3-1 with a cool finish after combining with Jordan Silva six minutes from time.

Atlas, who have won the past two Liga MX titles, are now 14th in the 18-team standings with seven points from seven outings. Queretaro are last with just two points so far. Enditem
