GAZA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least eight Palestinians were killed and 44 injured on Friday in the intensive Israeli fighter jets' airstrikes on Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) targets in the Gaza Strip, medics and eyewitnesses said.
Taysir al-Jabari, a commander of Saraya al-Quds, the armed wing of Jihad, was among those killed, the PIJ said in a statement.
The victims also included a 5-year-old girl, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said in a press statement.
The ministry said that it raised the state of readiness and emergency in all hospitals and ambulance stations in the Gaza Strip.
On Friday, Israeli fighter jets launched three intensive airstrikes on the PIJ targets in the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses.
The Israeli army confirmed in a statement that the raid was part of a declared military operation "True Dawn."
Israel public radio said instructions were issued to the residents in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip to stay near shelters, adding that all educational activities at a distance of 80 km from Gaza will be canceled.
The radio said the Israeli army is preparing for the rockets launching from the Gaza Strip. Enditem
