GAZA -- The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) active in the Gaza Strip announced on Sunday evening that it has reached a cease-fire agreement with Israel.

Israel earlier confirmed that the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire with the PIJ would take effect at 11:30 p.m. local time (2030 GMT), ending the deadly Israeli airstrikes and the barrage of Palestinian rockets for three days. (Gaza-Ceasefire-Israel)

PARIS -- Wildfires in northwestern France's region of Brittany that broke out on Saturday have burned more than 300 hectares of land and forced evacuations in some cities, French daily newspaper Le Figaro reported on Sunday.

According to the report, 225 hectares of land have been burned in the city of Brasparts. Local authorities were quoted by the report as saying that more than 200 firefighters are on-site as the fire is not under control. (France-Wildfires-NW France)

LISBON -- Portugal registers 70 municipalities in northern and central regions of the country in "maximum danger of rural fire," the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) reported on Sunday.

DAR ES SALAAM -- The East African Community (EAC) has deployed 15 election observation teams to observe Tuesday's general elections in Kenya, the EAC said in a statement late Saturday.
