Singapore reports 7,965 new COVID-19 cases

SINGAPORE, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Singapore reported 7,965 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total tally to 1,771,081.

Of the new cases, 715 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 7,250 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 679 were local transmissions and 36 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 7,028 local transmissions and 222 imported cases, respectively.

A total of 731 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with 27 cases in intensive care units.

One more death from COVID-19 was reported on Tuesday, bringing the total death toll to 1,542, the ministry said. Enditem
