YAOUNDE, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- One soldier and four civilians have been killed in Boko Haram attacks in Cameroon's Far North region, according to security and local sources.

Militants of the terror group ambushed and killed a soldier at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Kolofata subdivision of the region, a military official familiar with the attack told Xinhua.

The soldier, identified as Corporal Tchana, was riding with his colleague on a motorcycle along Zeleved and Ldaoussaf road in the subdivision when the militants opened fire, killing him on the spot. His colleague is still missing, the official who asked not to be named said.

Overnight into Tuesday, the militants attacked two civilians who were riding along the road in Kolofata, killing one and wounding another, according to locals who buried the corpse early Tuesday.

On Monday afternoon, the militants killed three internally displaced men who were working in their farms in Kolofata, according to local media.

Kolofata is one of the strongholds of Boko Haram in Far North region since the terror group began offensives in the region in 2014. Enditem
