BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Fluminense forward German Cano has expressed hope that his prolific scoring form for Fluminense may lead to an international call-up for Argentina.

Cano has netted 13 times in 21 games during the current Brazilian Serie A season and is the leading scorer this calendar year in European and South American football with 30 goals in 49 outings.

"All of the hard work has been worthwhile and I'm in great form," the 34-year-old was quoted as saying by Argentine news outlet Ole.

"I've had many ups and downs and I've been able to overcome them all. I hope to continue scoring more goals for Fluminense and enjoy the moment."

Cano, who joined Fluminense from their Brazilian rivals Vasco da Gama in January, admitted he hasn't given up hope of making his international debut at an age when most players are considering retirement.

"The desire to be called up to Argentina's national team is always there. It's difficult but not impossible," Cano said.

"I've put in a lot of effort to get to where I am now and if I get the call, I'll be sure to give 100%. Whether I'm in or out of the national squad, I'll be supporting them," he added. Enditem
