VALLETTA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Maltese and Indian officials met here on Monday to discuss ways of boosting private Indian investments in Malta.

"In Malta, we currently have 112 companies or private investments from India, but it is necessary that in the trade sector we continue to develop the relationship we have with India, and above all, to increase our exports to India," Maltese Foreign Minister Ian Borg said after bilateral talks in Malta with the visiting Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi.

After more than 57 years of bilateral relations, he added, relations between the two countries can still be reinforced. Despite the difference in the size of Malta and India, both countries have vibrant economies that should be exploited in the best possible ways for the benefit of the Maltese and Indian people, Borg said.

Regarding the trade sector, Borg said the sectors of information and technological communication, pharmaceuticals, and even the film industry offer many opportunities for collaboration.

Next month, a Maltese ministerial delegation will visit India.

Lekhi also emphasized the need to continue to strengthen commercial ties between the two countries. She said the Indian Government would continue signing and cooperating on a number of agreements with Malta. Enditem
