Water level of Drava river in Croatia drops to historic low

ZAGREB, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The water level of the river Drava in eastern Croatia has dropped to a historic low of minus 170 centimeters due to the severe drought, the Croatian state news agency Hina said on Wednesday.
This is the lowest level since measurements began in 1827, the report said. The previous lowest level was minus 168 centimeters, which was recorded in 2003.
The Drava is Croatia's second longest river. It is one of the biggest tributaries of the river Danube, which is the second longest river in Europe.
The river Sava is also 15 to 20 centimeters above its lowest level on record. The Danube is about 30 centimeters above its record low, the report said.
The severe drought is also taking a heavy toll on the country's farmers, who expect their drought-related losses this year to surpass 1 billion Croatian kuna (132 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
