Afghan police arrest 13 drug smugglers in Baghlan province

PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested 13 drug smugglers and confiscated 66 kg illicit drugs including heroin from their possessions, provincial head of counter-narcotics Mullah Mohammad Nabi said Thursday.

"We have arrested 13 drug smugglers during a series of operations over the past two days and discovered 66 kg of illegal drugs including heroin, hashish and opium poppy from their possessions," Nabi told reporters here.

All the arrested smugglers have been taken into custody for investigation, the official added.

Similarly, police have destroyed 12 acres of hashish farm in the northern Sari Pul province several days ago.

In a similar move, counter-narcotics police have smashed 5,000 acres of poppy fields in the western Herat province over the past four months. Enditem
