PRAGUE -- The Czech Republic's lower house of parliament approved Finland and Sweden's bid to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), it announced on Saturday.

The Chamber of Deputies is the second of the country's two parliamentary bodies to give its approval, following the Senate's decision. It now must be signed by the country's president to complete the ratification. (Czech Republic-NATO)

MANILA -- A trailer truck collided with a motorbike and a tricycle on a highway in northern Philippines on Saturday afternoon, killing five, including a sixth-month-old baby boy, and injuring two others, police said.

Police said the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. local time in Tumauini town in Isabela province when the truck heading north crossed the opposite lane on the highway and collided with the motorbike and tricycle. (Philippines-Road accident)

TEHRAN -- Iran and Nigeria signed agreements here on Saturday to expand energy cooperation, Iran's Oil Ministry's news service Shana reported.

DAMASCUS -- Israel's Thursday missile strike in central Syria destroyed a major weapon depot containing Iranian-developed missiles, a war monitor reported on Saturday.

The depot contained more than 1,000 mid-range, surface-to-surface, Iranian-developed missiles, which had been stocked over the course of one year in the city of Masyaf in the central province of Hama, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-Israeli airstrike-Missile depot) Enditem
