STOCKHOLM -- A fire that broke out on a passenger ferry carrying around 300 people off the coast of Sweden on Monday has been put under control, according to the Swedish Maritime Administration.

The ferry was en route from Nynashamn, a city south of Stockholm, to the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea when the fire alarm went off at around 12:40 p.m. local time (1040 GMT), Swedish Television reported. (Sweden-Ferry-Fire)

UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called on the world to bring into force a treaty to ban all nuclear tests.

Guterres made the appeal in his message to mark International Day against Nuclear Tests, which falls on Monday.

Nuclear testing has long poisoned the planet's natural environment and the species and people who call it home, the UN chief said, noting that the International Day against Nuclear Tests represents "an alarm bell for the world to finally put in place a legally binding prohibition on all nuclear tests." SYDNEY -- All the three people on board a light plane that crashed Monday in Australia's northeastern state of Queensland were killed, according to the state police.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi authorities declared Monday a full curfew in the capital Baghdad after thousands of powerful Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's supporters entered the Green Zone and threatened to storm main government offices.
