UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is appointing Imran Riza of Pakistan as his new deputy special coordinator for Lebanon, a UN spokesman said on Thursday.

Riza will also serve as resident and humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for Guterres, told reporters at a press briefing.

Riza succeeds Najat Rochdi of Morocco, who recently completed her assignment and was appointed as the UN secretary-general's deputy special envoy for Syria.

Riza brings over 35 years of international experience across the UN system, mainly in field settings.

For the past three years, he was in Syria as UN resident coordinator and humanitarian coordinator. Enditem
