VIENTIANE, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) intended to support the development of the sport in Laos on an international level as its president Khalil Al Mohannadi visited Kikeo Khaikhamphithoun, Deputy Prime Minister of Laos here on Monday.

At the Prime Minister's Office in Lao capital Vientiane, the ATTU leader said that he would support the Lao Table Tennis Federation's (LAOTTF) development, according to a press release issued after the meeting.

Lao state-run daily Vientiane Times reported on Tuesday that the ATTU will continue to support the development of Lao players to international standards, following the Union's success in organizing the Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships (AJCC) in Vientiane from September 1 to 6.

According to the Lao daily, the ATTU president said he believes that with further support and training, the skills of Lao coaches could be improved and management of the sport enhanced.

On behalf of the Lao government, Kikeo thanked the ATTU for supporting Laos to host the championships, and the event has been a success and Lao table tennis players have benefitted from the experience.

The tournament, with competitions among cadets (aged under 15 years) and juniors (aged under 19 years), features team, singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Enditem
