SUVA, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Constitution Day was celebrated in Fiji on Wednesday with this year's theme of the "right to a clean and healthy environment".

Fijian President Wiliame Katonivere challenged people to submit a brief video on how they plan to address topics like climate change, the need to clean up communities, or how to maintain reefs and ocean ecosystems as part of this year's celebration, according to a report by Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in his message said the 2013 Constitution is the only constitution in the history of Fiji that recognizes equal citizenry and socio-economic rights, and is inclusive of the rights of the most vulnerable in society.

Various celebrations, picnics and friendly sporting events were held across the country to celebrate the public holiday.

The United Nations Park in Suva, capital of Fiji, was a sea of blue as hundreds of children and parents gathered to celebrate the Constitution Day with fun-filled activities, which also provided children with an opportunity to learn more about the constitution.

Last year, celebration in person was not permitted as Fiji battled to get its COVID-19 cases under control. Enditem
