Japanese female wrestlers triumph at World Championships in Serbia

BELGRADE, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Japan won the women's team title with 190 points at the Belgrade Wrestling World Championships, with the United States second on 157, and China finishing third with 84 points.

On Thursday, Tsugumi Sakurai of Japan defeated Helen Louise Maroulis of the United States 3-0 to win gold in the 57kg category, while Moldova's Anastasia Nichita defeated Grace Jacob Bullen from Norway 4-1 in the final of the 59kg category.

Sakurai's win was Japan's fifth gold of the tournament, after Yui Susaki had defeated Otgonjargal Dolgorjav of Mongolia 4-0 for the 50kg gold, Miwa Morikawa won the 65kg category against China's Jia Long (2-0), Mayu Shidochi Mukaida smashed Ukraine's Oleksandra Khomenets 10-0 in the 55kg final, and Nonoka Ozaki outperformed American Kayla Miracle 10-0 for the 62kg gold.

In other categories, Tamyra Mariama Stock Mensah of the United States defeated Ami Ishii of Japan 6-0 to lift the 68kg gold, and her compatriot Amit Elor defeated Zhamila Bakbergenova of Kazakhstan 10-0 to bag the 72kg title.

The World Wrestling Championships take place from September 10 to 18 in Serbia's capital, with over 800 athletes competing in Greco-Roman, men's Freestyle and women's Freestyle. Enditem
