JERUSALEM, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Israel will host an international conference on food production technologies from the sea and the desert, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said Monday.

The summit, initiated by the Israeli ministry, will take place in the southernmost Red Sea city of Eilat between Oct. 18 and 20, according to a ministry statement.

It will be attended by ministers of agriculture, scientists and leading entrepreneurs from around the world, as well as delegates from Bahrain, Malta, Morocco, Jordan, and Cyprus, the statement said.

The conference aims at promoting knowledge and technologies in the field of marine and desert agriculture, and strengthening research and business collaborations in the field, it added.

It will thus promote international and regional cooperation with countries across the Middle East in the face of the acute climate crisis and growing global food insecurity.

The conference follows the Israeli government's decision to launch a multi-year plan to develop Eilat and the southern Eilot region as a national and international center for the production of food from the sea and the desert. Enditem
