DAMASCUS/BEIRUT -- At least 73 people died from a boat that sank off the Syrian coast on Thursday, the Syrian Health Ministry said Friday.

Twenty others have been rescued and sent for medical treatment at the al-Basel hospital in the Syrian coastal city of Tartous after the boat sank in the Syrian waters, Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabbash said in a statement. (Syria-Migrant Boat-Maritime Disaster)

ISTANBUL -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday emphasized the need to start shipping Russian grains and fertilizers through the recently-established grain corridor.

"One of the most important possible next steps is to bring (to the markets) grains from Russia," said Erdogan in the Turkish city of Istanbul, referring to the UN-backed deal that allowed unimpeded passage of ships carrying foodstuff through the conflict-ridden Black Sea. RAMALLAH -- Dozens of Palestinian protesters were injured during clashes with Israeli soldiers in several West Bank cities and villages on Friday, Palestinian medics and eyewitnesses said.

ANKARA -- The number of foreign visitors arriving in Türkiye saw a 58.3-percent increase year-on-year in August to 6.3 million, the data from the Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry showed on Friday.
