MOSCOW -- Russia has registered 40,017 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 20,909,731, the official monitoring and response center said Wednesday.

The nationwide death toll increased by 111 to 387,054, while the number of recoveries grew by 61,515 to 19,921,826, the center said. (Russia-Coronavirus)

RAMALLAH -- Three Palestinians were killed and 10 others injured on Wednesday during clashes with Israeli soldiers in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, Palestinian medics and eyewitnesses have said.

ABUJA -- In a recent operation in the country's northern state of Kaduna, Nigerian troops rescued at least seven people kidnapped by gunmen, an official said on Tuesday.

The troops combed forests between the Birnin-Gwari and Chikun local government areas of the state and had a fierce gunfight with some gunmen, during which many of them fled, leaving behind the captives in their custody, said Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs in Kaduna.
