S.Korea's online shopping logs double-digit growth in August

SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping logged double-digit growth in August, statistical office data showed Tuesday.

Shopping in the cyberspace stood at 17.72 trillion won (12.4 billion U.S. dollars) in August, up 16.0 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.

Online transactions for travel and transport services more than doubled to 1.87 trillion won (1.3 billion dollars) in August, marking the highest since relevant data began to be compiled in 2017.

Food transactions jumped 27.3 percent to 2.67 trillion won (1.9 billion dollars) ahead of the Chuseok holiday, a traditional mid-autumn harvest festival in South Korea.

Transactions for clothing, footwear, and sports and leisure items gained in the month.

Mobile shopping through smartphones expanded 17.8 percent over the year to 13.2 trillion won (9.2 billion dollars) in August, taking up 74.7 percent of the total online shopping. Enditem
