RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Palmeiras extended their lead in Brazil's Serie A championship standings on Thursday by cruising to a 4-0 home victory over Coritiba.

Mayke and Rony netted early goals for the hosts before Gustavo Gomes and Breno Lopes completed the rout after halftime at Allianz Parque.

Palmeiras now hold a 12-point lead over second-placed Internacional with eight match days remaining in the season. Coritiba are 16th in the 20-team standings with 31 points and are just one point clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Sao Paulo claimed their third straight league win by coming from behind to beat America Mineiro 2-1 in Belo Horizonte.

Aloisio Goncalves gave the hosts the lead with a 10th-minute strike before Jonathan Calleri equalized just after halftime.

Alisson Castro put the visitors ahead with a 91st-minute goal as Rogerio Ceni's men clinched their ninth win of the campaign.

Sao Paulo are now ninth in the standings with 40 points, two points behind eight-placed America Mineiro.

In the only other Brazilian Serie A fixture on Thursday, Botafogo recovered from an early deficit to win 2-1 at Avai. Enditem
