LAGOS, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Scores of gunmen were killed following airstrikes by Nigerian troops in the restive northern state of Kaduna, an official said Tuesday.
Musa Danmadami, a military spokesman, said in a statement the airstrikes took place Saturday targeting some armed groups' hideouts in the Giwa local government area of the state based on credible intelligence.
Danmadami said some of the gunmen have relocated to Kaduna state following recent strengthened military operations in the neighboring Niger state.
Scores of gunmen, including leaders and foot soldiers, were killed in the airstrikes, he said, adding that the military command encourages the public to provide troops with credible and timely information on criminal activities.
Banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities have recently hit parts of the most populous African country. The military said they are in control of the situation with multiple ongoing operations against the gunmen. Enditem
