BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Tucuman missed the chance to draw closer to leaders Boca Juniors when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Rosario Central in Argentina's Primera Division on Thursday.
Facundo Buonanotte opened the scoring for the visitors by rifling a 20-yard shot into the top left corner after Damien Martinez's pass.
Rosario Central were reduced to 10 men in the 78th minute as Marcelo Benitez was shown a second yellow card for a bad foul.
The hosts wasted no time to capitalize on their numerical advantage and equalized in the 85th minute courtesy of an Ignacio Maestro Puch header five minutes from time.
Atletico Tucuman had the chance to take the lead in the second minute of stoppage time after the video assistant referee deemed that Johnathan Candia handled the ball inside the penalty area.
But Ramiro Carrera squandered the resultant spot-kick as Rosario Central registered their third consecutive league draw. Atletico Tucuman, who led the 28-team standings for much of the season, have 45 points, three fewer than Boca Juniors, who have a game in hand.
In other Primera Division fixtures on Thursday, Tigre won 2-0 at Newell's, Argentinos Juniors held Godoy Cruz to a goalless draw, Patronato prevailed 1-0 at Lanus and Velez Sarsfield secured a 1-0 win over Talleres Cordoba. Enditem
