CAIRO, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Lu Kaiman of China held her nerve to beat Rio Olympic champion Anna Korakaki of Greece 16-10 for women's 10m air pistol gold at the world championships here on Saturday.
Lu beat 35-year-old Zorana Arunovic of Serbia to third by 0.1 points through a 10.6 final shot in the ranking match to squeeze into the gold medal match against Korakaki, who was 1.6 points ahead of her.
However, in the gold medal match, Korakaki made six sub-10 out of her first 10 shots, which saw Lu one step from the gold at 14-6. Although the 26-year-old Greek made a 10.6 to trail 14-8 and got away with a 9.6 as Lu made 9.5, her 9.8 shot gave Lu another chance to clinch the victory, which the 22-year-old seized with a 10.4.
Arunovic's bronze was enough to earn Serbia one of the four Paris 2024 quotas on offer in this event. Elmira Karapetyan also obtained one for Armenia despite a fifth-place finish after another Chinese shooter Li Xue, as one National Olympic Committee can obtain no more than one quota in any individual event.
Olympic bronze medalist Jiang Ranxin, who topped the qualification, failed to recover from a 47.9 first series and ranked seventh.
Lu's gold wrapped up a fruitful day for China as Liu Jinyao and Zhang Yifan had a one-two finish in the men's 10m air pistol earlier on Saturday. Enditem
