India reports 1,946 new COVID-19 cases

NEW DELHI, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- India's daily COVID-19 caseload Wednesday increased to 1,946, officials said.

According to federal health ministry data released on Wednesday morning, 1,946 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,634,376 in the country.

With the reporting of fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 25,968.

The country also logged 10 related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,923 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

With the increase in cases, the daily positivity rate stands at 0.75 percent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.01 percent, the ministry data showed.

The ministry said so far 44,079,485 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals, of whom 2,417 were discharged during the past 24 hours.

According to the health ministry, the cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage in the country has exceeded 2 billion doses and until Wednesday morning 2,194,143,525 doses were administered.

A cumulative total of 899,187,693 samples have been tested up to Oct. 18, the health ministry said Wednesday. Out of these, 260,806 tests were conducted on Tuesday alone.
