Singapore reports 8,176 new COVID-19 cases

SINGAPORE, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Singapore reported 8,176 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the country's total tally to 2,046,123.

Of the new cases, 837 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 7,339 through ARTs (antigen rapid test), according to statistics released by the country's Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 805 were local transmissions and 32 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 7,060 local transmissions and 279 imported cases.

A total of 647 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with 13 in intensive care units.

Five new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Thursday, taking the total death toll to 1,659. Enditem
