TEHRAN, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iranian border guards confiscated a batch of smuggled weapons while smugglers were trying to move them into the country through the western border, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Saturday.

Citing Iranian Border Guards Commander Ahmad Ali Goudarzi, the report said the country's security forces, using optical equipment, managed to find the smugglers and seize the weapons, which included 38 pistols, 76 magazines, one sword, and one Kalashnikov rifle bayonet.

Goudarzi added that two smugglers were arrested in the operation, noting that the country's border guards also confiscated two vehicles that the smugglers intended to use to carry the weapons and ammunition.

The report didn't specify the exact date of the operation.

He said in another operation in Dehloran County in the western Iranian province of Ilam, the country's border police seized five Kalashnikov rifles, pistols as well as a large amount of ammunition. Enditem
