MAIMANA, Afghanistan -- Unknown armed men shot dead two miners and a guard of a salt mine in Afghanistan's northern Faryab province on Saturday, provincial police spokesman Hamidullah Bot Shekan said Sunday.

The attack took place in the Andkhoy district late Saturday night when the unknown armed men opened fire on the workers of the salt mine inside a break room, killing two workers and a guard on the spot, the official added. (Afghanistan-Attack-Salt Mine)

MANILA -- A blast on a bus in the southern Philippines injured at least five people shortly before noon on Sunday, a senior military official said.

DAR ES SALAAM -- The death toll from a Tanzanian plane crash into Lake Victoria on Sunday morning has risen from three to 19 by late afternoon, said the country's Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.
