YANGON, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and 48 others injured in 19 road accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway in October, state run media citing traffic police data reported on Wednesday.
The number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries on the Yangon-Mandalay highway last month rose from 11 traffic accidents, four deaths and 9 injuries in September, official data showed.
A total of 142 road accident cases have been reported on the highway from January to October this year, the report said.
The 587-km highway, connecting the country's commercial hub Yangon and the second-largest city of Mandalay, was inaugurated in December 2010.
Human errors such as overspeeding, negligent driving and drowsy driving are mostly blamed for highway accidents in Myanmar.
Last year, over 3,000 people were killed and more than 8,000 people injured in 6,420 road crashes across Myanmar. Enditem
