ISLAMABAD, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- A public open day has been held at the Karot hydropower project, a major pilot project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), nearly five months after being put into full operation in June this year.
With the theme of "Clean Energy, Karot hydropower project around me," the public day was arranged Thursday to let the visitors experience the comprehensive benefits of the power project in providing clean energy, protecting the ecological environment, as well as fulfilling social responsibilities.
The participants, including government officials, community members, teachers and students, visited the spillway, dam, power plant and other facilities of the China-aided hydro project.
Constructed by the China Three Gorges Corporation, the project has a total installed capacity of 720 MW and is expected to meet the electricity needs of over 5 million people in Pakistan and play an important role in alleviating the power shortage in Pakistan.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice General Manager of China Three Gorges International Limited Qin Guobin said that the holding of the public day is a sign of openness, inclusiveness and integration and a vivid illustration of China-Pakistan friendship.
"The China Three Gorges Corporation will continue to implement the goals of CPEC energy cooperation, provide more green energy for Pakistan's socio-economic development, and bring more benefits to the local people," he said. Enditem
