MADRID, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Athletic Club Bilbao's Spain international goalkeeper Unai Simon has expressed his satisfaction at being called into Luis Enrique's 26-man squad for the World Cup.

The 25-year-old, who has 27 Spain caps already, will be the first choice for Spain in Qatar, with Robert Sanchez and David Raya as his substitutes after Enrique opted not to give a call to Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has been in good form for Chelsea.

"To be able to play in a World Cup or to be already on the list itself, the truth is that it is something that any athlete wants, the maximum competition that a footballer can aspire to. I am very happy to be among those chosen by Luis Enrique," said Simon in declarations to the Athletic Club website.

Simon will travel to Qatar with the club sitting fourth in LaLiga and he said his call-up and that of winger, Nico Williams, highlights the good work they are doing under Ernesto Valverde.

"Being able to be called up with the national team means what we are doing here at the club," he said.

Williams also expressed his delight at making the plane to Qatar after just substitute appearances.

"It's every player's dream to go to the World Cup. I hope to give some great moments for the national team and I'm going to keep working. I'm also happy to form part of the big Athletic Club family," said Williams. Enditem
