TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian foreign minister on Monday condemned the deadly bomb attack in central Istanbul of Türkiye that killed at least six people and injured 81.
"We strongly condemn the terrorist act and targeting of innocent people in Istanbul," Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a tweet to extend condolences and sympathies to the government and people of Türkiye.
Also on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the attack, saying Iran vigorously denounces any "terrorist act" that targets the security of Türkiye and its people.
He added Iran stands by "the friendly and brotherly government and nation of Türkiye."
The explosion hit the busy pedestrian Istiklal avenue in Istanbul on Sunday. The Istanbul Police Department said the suspect was a Syrian national under orders of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and its branch in Syria, the People's Protection Units (YPG). Both are listed as terrorist organizations by Türkiye. Enditem
