MADRID, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Real Sociedad confirmed on Monday that coach Imanol Alguacil has extended his contract until June 2025.

The 51-year-old former player was promoted from the Real Sociedad B-team to the first team in 2018, first on a temporary and then on a permanent basis.

During his time in charge, he has led the club to qualify for European competitions three times and also taken them to victory in the 2020 Copa del Rey.

His time in charge has also seen players from the club's youth system such as Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Oyarzabal become key players, with a total of 19 players making their first-team debut.

Real Sociedad now go into the break for the World Cup in third place in La Liga, with only FC Barcelona and Real Madrid ahead of them.

"We have had a lot of games and we had an initial conversation with Imanol in August," explained club President Jokin Aperribay.

Imanol said: "This is a special day for me, because of where we are and the form we are in. We will work, show ambition and above all we have the capacity to take the club to where it is."
