DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- A senior Tanzanian government official on Friday night launched the Tanzania-South Africa joint cultural festival in Dar es Salaam.

Mohamed Mchengerwa, the Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, said the week-long cultural festival between the two countries will also be held in Coast, Morogoro and Dodoma regions, and Zanzibar.

Mchengerwa said the festival will involve a chain of events, including exhibitions of the southern African liberation struggle in which Tanzania played a major role, the two countries culture and traditional norms, African music and traditional dances.

"Visitors to the joint cultural festival will have a golden opportunity to learn the history of the liberation struggle in Southern Africa," he said at the Mlimani City Mall in the port city of Dar es Salaam, the venue of the festival.

Mchengerwa said the festival was also a platform for cementing cultural, arts and sports cooperation that was established by founding leaders Julius Nyerere of Tanzania and Nelson Mandela of South Africa.

The minister said during the festival, visitors will be able to visit areas in Tanzania that were used for activities of the liberation struggle in Dar es Salaam, Coast, Morogoro and Dodoma regions. Enditem
