KAMPALA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Uganda Prisons Service, in a statement issued here on Monday, urged all its officers to be alert and take the security of guns as a top priority, after an increase in gun attacks on installations.

The alert followed recent attacks on a traffic checkpoint, a police post, and a military barracks entrance by unknown gunmen. In all the attacks, gunmen ran away with guns.

The security agency directed barracks and prison patrols to be carried out day and night.

The Uganda People's Defence Forces said in a statement on Friday that the attack on its guards near its barracks in the eastern city of Jinja will meet the necessary retaliation. The statement said in the attack, one soldier was killed and two guns were stolen. Enditem
