Indian PM expresses grief over loss of lives in Indonesian earthquake

NEW DELHI, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in an earthquake that hit Indonesia on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Indian Prime Minister's office, Modi wished a speedy recovery to the injured in the earthquake and said India stands with Indonesia in this hour of grief.

"Saddened by the loss of lives and damage to property from the earthquake in Indonesia. Deepest condolences to the victims and their families. Wish a speedy recovery to the injured," Modi wrote on social media.

A 5.6-magnitude quake hit Indonesia's West Java province on Monday, killing at least 268 people and 151 others are still missing. The earthquake also left 1,083 people injured and forced 58,362 others to flee home. Enditem
