DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday ordered a full study on reasons that have led to the environmental deterioration of three lakes in the country's northern Manyara region.

President Hassan ordered the state-run National Environment Management Council to make the study without delay in the lakes of Babati, Basotu, and Manyara which are facing environmental pollution.

Addressing a public rally in her second-day official visit to the Manyara region, President Hassan said reports indicated that the three lakes have been heavily degraded.

Located in the Lake Manyara National Park, Lake Manyara is a source of water for wild animals in the national park but the lake has been degraded by human activities.

She also directed the launching of tree-planting campaigns close to the lakes to protect them from further deterioration. Enditem
