Tourist arrivals in Myanmar double in 7 months

YANGON, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The number of tourists visiting Myanmar during the first seven months of the 2022-23 fiscal year (April 2022-March 2023) jumped by 99.48 percent year-on-year, data from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism showed Saturday.
A total of 144,112 foreign visitors arrived in the Southeast Asian country from April to October this year, up from 72,243 in the same period last year, the data showed.
Myanmar resumed the operation of international commercial flights in April this year, and the number of tourists visiting the country has gradually increased.
Official data showed that more than 4.36 million tourists visited Myanmar in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The number of tourists who visited Myanmar sharply dropped to 0.9 million in 2020 and 0.13 million in 2021 due to the pandemic, official figures showed.
As of Friday, Myanmar recorded a total of 633,137 COVID-19 infections, including 19,488 deaths and 607,576 recoveries, according to the health ministry. Enditem
