BERLIN -- One of the two teenage girls who were attacked by an unidentified man on their way to school in southern Germany Monday morning has died, local media confirmed. She was 14.

The incident took place in Illerkirchberg, a town of about 4,700 people in Baden-Wurttemberg. The girls were seriously injured and were taken to hospital, the DPA report said, citing police. (Germany-Attack-Teenage Girls)

UNITED NATIONS -- UN humanitarians seek almost 50 million U.S. dollars to assist about 315,000 people in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, a UN spokeswoman said on Monday.

LOS ANGELES -- California's Highway 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway, was closed Monday after multiple rockslides occurred along the classic road trip route.

HELSINKI -- Following its emergency meeting on Monday, the government of Finland submitted to Parliament a draft proposal on the country's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

However, the speaker of Parliament said that he intended to propose that the deputies do not approve the proposal in absence of ratifications by all NATO member states. To date, 28 of the alliance's 30 member states have ratified Finland's accession. (Finland-NATO) Enditem
