Vietnam reports over 300,000 dengue fever cases, 122 deaths this year

HANOI, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has detected 325,604 dengue fever cases so far this year, including 122 fatalities, according to its health ministry.

The number of dengue infections increased nearly five times and the number of death went up 97 cases compared to the same period last year, it said.

Between January and November, the country also reported 269 cases of virus encephalitis infection including five deaths, and 62,400 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, according to the country's Preventive Health Department on Thursday.

A total of 601 people in the country, suffered from food poisoning, of whom 14 died in the cited period, said the department.

Vietnam currently has 221,500 HIV carriers. To date, 112,500 people in the country have died of AIDS-related diseases, it said. Enditem
