VALLETTA, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Malta is to begin vaccinating children as young as six months, Health Minister Chris Fearne said on Wednesday.

Children aged between six months and four years will be offered a three-dose vaccination program from next week onwards.

Health authorities in Malta are currently recording around 30 COVID-19 cases a day, Fearne said. There are 18 patients in hospital, but none are in intensive care.

Fearne hailed the country's high rate of vaccination, which he said leads to high immunity and relatively low numbers of cases.

However, he added: "COVID will remain with us and most likely become a seasonal virus." Enditem
