SYDNEY, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's Wang Xinyu was knocked out of the WTA Hobart International tournament on Thursday when she lost 6-3, 6-3 to world No. 84 Lauren Davis of the United States in the quarterfinals.

After a five-day warm-up at the Domain Tennis Center, the 21-year-old Chinese will next move to Melbourne Park to take on world No. 227 Storm Hunter in the opening round of the Australian Open.

During the 85-minute encounter with Wang, Davis landed 77.6 percent of her first serves and saved four out of five break points on the center court. The American qualifier joined her compatriot and former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin into the final four of the tournament.

Currently ranked No. 143 and entering Hobart International with a wildcard, the 24-year-old Kenin dropped eight aces over her Ukrainian opponent Anhelina Kalinina and sealed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win to make the semifinals.

For another U.S. player Bernarda Pera, her quarterfinal showdown with Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto was a second physical test after her Wednesday's laborious win over Germany's Laura Siegemund in a three-hour rubber.

The match with Cocciaretto once again took Pera almost three hours - two hours and 47 minutes to be exact, but this time the sixth-seeded Pera bowed out from the tournament with a 5-7, 7-6 (8), 6-4 defeat to her lower-ranked Italian opponent.

A second upset later unfolded between Anna Blinkova of Russia and Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan. The world No. 72 Russian stormed into the singles semis by stunning the eight-seeded and world No. 51 Putintseva 6-3, 6-4 in a 100-minute game.

In the women's doubles, Ukraine's Nadiya Kichenok and Belgium's Kimberley Zimmermann sent Japan's Miyu Kato and Indonesia's Aldila Sutjiadi packing after registering a 7-6(3), 6-2 win, while Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens and Germany's Laura Siegemund smashed the Australian pair Olivia Gadecki and Talia Gibson 6-2, 6-1.
