BANGKOK, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Thailand is gearing up efforts to gain support for its bid to host the Specialised Expo 2027/28, a Thai official has said.
The country is fully ready for the event, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs permanent secretary Sarun Charoensuwan, calling the bid to host the expo in the southern resort island of Phuket a national priority.
Thailand's long-proven expertise in holding major events and exhibitions will serve as an assurance of its success, Sarun said.
The event aims to address pressing global challenges that impact people, the planet and prosperity, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) President Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya said.
The expo will provide a platform for participating countries to present their innovative solutions for sustainable future living while putting people and the environment first and leaving no one behind, Chiruit said.
According to the TCEB, the Thai government has earmarked a budget of 4.18 billion baht (126.25 million U.S. dollars) for the expo, which is expected to welcome a minimum of 7 million visitors and generate a revenue of 50 billion baht (1.5 billion U.S. dollars).
Phuket is in competition with four other candidates to host the expo, including Minnesota in the United States, Belgrade in Serbia, Malaga in Spain and San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina, according to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The host country is scheduled to be selected in June this year by BIE members. Enditem
