LAGOS -- Twelve hostages were set free after the Nigerian troops recently stormed a forest used as a hideout of gunmen in southern Nigeria's Edo state, the police said on Sunday.

Mohammed Dankwara, police chief in Edo state, said in a statement that the rescued victims were among the scores of people who were kidnapped by a group of gunmen from the Igueben train station of the state about a week ago. (Nigeria-Hostages-Rescue)

KINSHASA -- At least ten people were killed in an improvised explosive device attack on Sunday in the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), said a local army spokesman.

ABUJA -- At least seven people were killed after a truck conveying over 70 people overturned in the country's central Plateau State, Nigeria's traffic police confirmed on Sunday.

Peter Longsan, a spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau, told reporters in the state capital of Jos, that scores of people were also injured as the truck overturned due to loss of control on a road near the Jwak village located in the Mangu local government area late Saturday. KATHMANDU -- A total of 68 bodies had been recovered after a local passenger plane carrying 72 people crashed in the Pokhara region in central Nepal on Sunday, and the effort was continuing to find four others, officials said.
