VILNIUS, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A 42 million euro deal was struck on Monday between renewable energy company Green Genius and RGreen Invest to build eight solar power plants in Lithuania by 2024.

"The green transition requires capital providers with financial and specific technical competence in the renewable energy field," said Rokas Bancevicius, CFO for Green Genius.

"Given Europe's general need to reduce dependence on energy imports, it is very important to continue to work on finding alternatives to the highly polluting current electricity model," said Nicolas Rochon, CEO of French energy transition investment company RGreen Invest.

The solar power plants in Lithuania should generate an estimated 82,400 MWh of green energy per year, and save over 34,600 tons of CO2, according to Green Genius. Enditem
