South Africa's mining production, sales on decline

JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- South Africa's mining production, one of the country's pillar industries, declined 9 percent year on year in November 2022, official data showed Tuesday.

Iron ore, diamonds and platinum group metals were the biggest negative contributors, which fell 19.4 percent, 21.5 percent and 22 percent, respectively, according to data released by Statistics South Africa.

Seasonally adjusted mining production decreased 0.4 percent in November compared with the previous month, the data showed.

In the three months ending in November, seasonally adjusted mining production dropped 1.9 percent when compared to the prior three months.

Along with the drop in production, mineral sales at current prices in the country decreased 15.2 percent year on year in November, with the largest negative contributors being gold, iron ore and platinum group metals, according to the data. Enditem
