PHNOM PENH, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Royal Group Koh Rong Development Company on Wednesday signed a deal to develop a 300-million-U.S. dollar eco-tourism airport on the Koh Rong (island) in the southwestern Preah Sihanouk province.

At a ceremony in Phnom Penh, Kith Meng, chairman and chief executive officer of the Royal Group Koh Rong Development Company, signed an agreement on the construction of the Koh Rong International Eco-Tourism Airport with Mao Havannall, minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

The construction of Koh Rong International Eco-Tourism Airport is estimated to cost 300 million U.S. dollars and is expected to be completed within five years, a joint press release said.

Speaking at the event, Havannall said the airport will be the kingdom's fourth new greenfield airport invested by private companies after the Dara Sakor International Airport, the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, and the Techo International Airport.

"These airports will positively contribute to promoting Cambodia's economic growth for the long term, expanding our air transport services in the context of regional and global economic integration," he said.

Meng said his company signed a Koh Rong lease agreement with the government in 2008 to develop the island into a business area and eco-tourism resort. Enditem
